Nottinghamshire require 206 more runs on the final day to defeat Warwickshire in a thrilling contest at Trent Bridge.
The Specsavers County Championship fixture against Warwickshire has ebbed and flowed but at stumps on the third day Notts are 21 for three, in pursuit of their target of 227.
A total of 16 wickets fell during the day, with Notts forging a slender first innings lead of 10 before bowling the Bears out for 236 in their second innings.
Luke Fletcher and Samit Patel took the bowling honours, transforming the contest after tea, after Warwickshire lost six wickets for only 56 runs.
Fletcher finished with four for 25 and Samit Patel took four for 71.
Nottinghamshire added 67 to their overnight score before being bowled out for 383, holding a narrow first innings advantage of 10. Brett Hutton made 59 and Rikki Clarke took four for 72 for the visitors.
Batting for a second time, Warwickshire lost Ian Westwood in the 35-minute session before lunch. For the second time in the match he fell to Fletcher for single, this time failing to cope with a popping delivery that flew high to point, where Patel took his 100th first class catch for the county.
During the first half of the afternoon Jonathan Trott looked in imperious form, racing to his half century from just 52 balls. At one stage he hit seven boundaries within the space of 12 deliveries but on 59 he was pinned lbw by Patel to one that kept low.
Laurie Evans struggled in making four from 36 balls and then contributed to his own downfall. He pushed Patel to mid on and set off but failed to beat a brilliant pick up and throw from Jackson Bird.
Bird then removed Sam Hain, caught behind for nine – and could immediately have had Tim Ambrose as well but a chance went begging in the slip cordon.
Varun Chopra played the major innings but fell to the first ball of the last session, nicking Fletcher behind. The big fast bowler then removed Tim Ambrose and Keith Barker in quick succession, whilst Patel dismissed Clarke, Jeetan Patel and Chris Wright.
Notts had eight overs to bat at the end of the day and lost Steven Mullaney, Michael Lumb and nightwatchman Fletcher, leaving the game in the balance ahead of the final day.
