NatWest T20 Blast cricket might be mostly about boundary hitting and death Yorkers, but Notts Outlaws fans have developed an admiration for their maestro of the middle overs, Steven Mullaney.
Those who regularly flock to Trent Bridge know that Mullaney almost routinely restricts opposition sides, even those that have begun at a canter during the opening powerplay over.
Mixing up canny slower balls with the ability to bowl relentlessly wicket-to-wicket at skiddy pace, the 30-year-old puts his success down to being open minded to constant evolution of his game.
"I have to keep evolving my methods in white ball cricket as the game changes to stay one step ahead of the batsman," said Mullaney.
"I have to make them hit in to my areas; some days it comes off, some days it doesn't but I am confident than more often than not it will work.
"If it's a slow wicket it is good to chat to the batsmen from the first innings to see what balls were working on the surface and trying to replicate them."
Last year he went seven overs without conceding a boundary over the matches against Lancashire Lightning and the Durham Jets, a remarkable feat.
His spell against the Jets included the dismissals Mark Stoneman and Paul Collingwood as Mullaney's 2-28 from four overs helped the Outlaws to a 42-run victory.
Five days out from the start of the NatWest T20 Blast at Trent Bridge, relive the Outlaws number five's superb spell against the men from the north-east.
