Dominic Brown starred in back-to-back matches with bat and ball as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI recorded a double victory over Yorkshire.
The 21-year-old all-rounder backed up his 3-12 and 28 off 19 balls in game one at Trent College, with 2-23 and a rapid 45 not out second time around as Paul Franks’ men won each of the matches by two wickets.
Brown, who played age-group cricket for Nottinghamshire and is now with the Club on trial, was the standout bowler in the visitors’ total of 145-6 after Franks won the toss and asked the White Rose to bat.
The Kimberley Institute man was backed up impressively by Billy Root, whose three overs cost 18 for the wicket of Matthew Waite (30).
Ben Kitt took 2-31 from his four overs while Ryan Gibson (40) and Callum Geldart (35) were the most significant contributors for the visitors.
Notts slipped to 42-4 from 7.5 overs in reply before Brown and Saad Ashraf added 50 to put the game back in the balance.
When four more wickets clattered in a hurry, Nottinghamshire were eight wickets down needing 23 off 2.5 overs as captain Franks was joined by Kitt in the middle, and the duo were equal to the task.
Kitt struck two important boundaries on his way to 17 not out off ten balls. Franks added an assured unbeaten 13 off ten and the game was won with an over to spare.
The second game saw Sam Wood join Brown among the wickets, taking 2-20 from four overs as Yorkshire could only post 139-8 despite Elliot Callis’s unbeaten 66.
Wood then posted 28 off 27 balls at the top of the order and Dan Christian added 31 off 25 with two sixes, to leave the home side seemingly cruising at 105-3.
An alarming cluster of wickets, however, left the home side 126-8 with just seven balls remaining in which to score 13 for victory.
Brown held his nerve until the last, but it was Kitt that struck the winning runs off the final ball of a dramatic match to secure a second successive victory.
