Nottinghamshire have recognised the achievements of Jake Ball by awarding the 25-year-old fast bowler his County Cap.

Ball enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2015, taking 65 wickets in all competitions and earning his maiden call-ups for the England Lions in both 20 and 50 over cricket.

He has begun the 2016 campaign in even better form, with 16 dismissals at an average of 17-prior to the current fixture against Yorkshire.

Then, producing his finest spell of the season before the Sky Sports cameras, Ball’s new ball spell against Yorkshire brought the dismissals of England internationals Adam Lyth, Gary Ballance and Joe Root, followed by visiting captain Andrew Gale on the third morning.

Ball made his Nottinghamshire first team debut back in 2009 and has since amassed 90 appearances in all competitions for the county. 

His 81 first class wickets have come at an average of 25 and Ball has also contributed 84 career dismissals in the white ball formats of the game.

A former England u19s international, Ball added representative honours with the MCC to his England Lions call-up during the winter.

“It’s always a real pleasure to present a County Cap to a player. It’s something that’s unique and traditional to cricket and it’s highly valued by players at our Club and around the country," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“Jake has been a bowler of terrific potential for a number of years, and since the start of last season he has really started to fulfil that promise.

“He performed well for us in all formats in 2015, enhanced his reputation in white ball cricket with the England Lions during the winter. During the 2016 seaon so far he's bowling better than ever.

“He’s certainly a bowler with the potential to move on to full international honours, and he’s an option for England across all three formats.”

Ball has also been named as Nottinghamshire’s Player of the Month for April.
