Anuj Dal took four for 23, and added 23 with the bat, to help hand Nottinghamshire’s Academy a seven wicket victory over Clifton Village at Notts Sport Club yesterday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first on a hard pitch, the visitors were bowled out for 143 in 47.2 overs. Dal was the pick of the bowlers, whilst the rest of the wickets were shared between Ben Kitt (3-22), Anis Raza (2-16) and Liam Patterson-White (1-25).
Opening the bowling, Kitt immediately removed Greg Croudis (0), Muhammed Usam (16) and Martin Weighton (3), restricting Clifton to 21-3.
The visitors offered some middle-order resistance before losing their fourth wicket in the 22nd over, Peter Vladev bowled by Dal for 21.
Further wickets then tumbled as Raza took wickets in back to back overs, that of Richard Harris (23) then Harry White (14) as Clifton collapsed to 85-6.
Any chance of a recovery was lost when Dal dismissed Vinay Landa (13) and trapped Kyle Killingworth for three in quick succession.
Alastair Walters topped scored for the visitors before Liam Patterson had him caught for 31, and number 11 Brad Moore was out to Dal without scoring to wrap up the Clifton innings.
In reply, Notts lost opening batsmen Alex Aldred and Tim Wyatt to early lbw decisions, before Dal joined Tom Keast in the middle and steadied the innings before he was caught for 23.
The game was still on when rain momentarily stopped play with Notts 83-3. However, when the players returned to the field, Tom Keast (70*) and Liam Patterson-White (40*) produced the decisive fourth wicket stand that secured victory within 34 overs.
