Jake Ball has been told he’ll be taking the new ball on his Test debut, against Pakistan at Lord’s today.
The Nottinghamshire fast bowler was presented with his first England cap by his uncle, wicketkeeping coach Bruce French, who won’t be the only family member proudly watching at the home of cricket.
“My Mum, Dad and Brother are here today,” he said. “Hopefully they will enjoy it as well.
“I’m feeling quite relaxed. I didn’t think I’d get much sleep last night, but I managed to get a decent kip, a good breakfast and I’m ready to go.
"I had a quiet night - stayed in, watched the T20 on the TV, lay in bed and tried not to think about it too much.
“If I get the opportunity to bowl at the Pavilion End today, that would be nice, and I believe I’m going to be taking the new ball, which is a big positive for me and something I enjoy doing.
“Hopefully I can emulate what I’ve been doing for Notts, for England.”
