Stuart Broad took two wickets against his own county on the opening day of Nottinghamshire’s Second XI friendly against Loughborough University.
The world’s number one Test bowler claimed the wickets of Sam Wood (18) and Anuj Dal (1) as the Notts team was bowled out for 295 shortly, before the home side were reduced to 26-3 by the close.
Greg Smith battled through a tough opening session, scoring 47 including eight fours, teenage wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Keast demonstrated his potential with an assured afternoon 72, Alex Aldred contributed 26 and Mathew Carter closed the innings on 42 not out.
Jack Blatherwick’s two new ball wickets - ably supported by Carter, who also snared a late breakthrough - reduced the students to 26-3 by the close.
