Outlaws all-rounder and Cricket Has Landed 2 superstar Sam Wood is hoping to enjoy an extended run in this year’s NatWest T20 Blast.
Having played a small part during the competition last year, Wood hopes more opportunities will open themselves up for him as players come and go from the Outlaws squad.
However, the 22-year-old knows there is a lot of work to do to back up his performances from the pre-season tour of Barbados.
“It was a great trip to Barbados for me, getting a couple of decent scores and winning the competition out there was an added bonus,” he said.
“It is all about starting afresh back in England and I appreciate how strong the side is that we have which means I have to work hard to force myself in to the reckoning.
“Obviously the likes of James Taylor and Alex Hales could be here and there playing for England so I will have to be flexible as to the job I am required to do.
“My ambitions are to get to finals day and win the tournament but we need to take it all one step at a time and keep our feet on the ground.”
Aside from the opening fixture against Birmingham Bears tomorrow, Wood has starred in an acting capacity as part of Cricket Has Landed 2.
Wood has enjoyed taking on extra activities away from the cricket field but remains fully focused on his performances on the field.
“The T20 campaign video is amazing and the guys working at Affixius have made it look absolutely fantastic making it a real step up from the first one,” he said.
“I struggled with the acting bit and it is not natural for me to pull all the aggressive facial expressions but I got there in the end.
“Hopefully that video will bring the masses down to Trent Bridge again as you get a massive buzz from playing in front of them.
“The first game against Lancashire last year was a great way to hit the ground running in front of a large crowd.
“To start the tournament with a win against the reigning champions will give us some momentum heading in to a busy period.”
