Harry Gurney took four wickets on a day of two halves against Derbyshire as the hosts recovered thanks to an unbeaten Billy Godleman double hundred to end the day on 380-8.
Nottinghamshire travelled to the 3aaa County Ground for the Second Eleven Championship match, Derbyshire winning toss and electing to bat first.
Ben Slater and Godleman opened proceedings but the former was trapped LBW by Will Gidman in the seventh over for 15.
Simon Webster removed Jonathan Clare before Gurney and Steven Mullaney got to work to reduce the hosts to 111-7 by lunch.
Gurney had Harvey Hosein caught behind before Mullaney bowled Bramwell without scoring in the 25th over.
Tom Knight joined Godleman and the hundred was reached in the 30th over but then Knight edged to Gidman at third slip off Gurney for eight and in the 32nd he struck again when Greg Cork was caught without scoring at second slip by Greg Smith.
Matt Critchley was next in but with the score on ‘Nelson’ in the 34th over he presented Mullaney with a simple catch to give Gurney his fourth wicket of the session, out for four and lunch was taken.
Godleman was unmoved though and alongside David Wainwright they lifted the score up to 186 before Mullaney struck again, bowling the latter for 18, ending a partnership worth 75.
That was the last of joy for the visitors in the day though, Derbyshire captain Godleman continuing to pile on the runs, reaching his century off 181 balls, to take his side to tea on 217-8.
Godleman (203*) and Taylor (62*) batted through the last session, adding an unbeaten 194-run ninth-wicket stand, to take their side to 380-8 at the end of the day, Gurney finishing with 4-55.
