Director of Cricket Mick Newell is set to name Michael Lumb in the Nottinghamshire squad for the LV= County Championship fixture against Somerset starting on Sunday.
Lumb hasn't featured to date in 2015 whilst undergoing rehabilitation from an arm operation and Newell believes the 35-year-old has timed his comeback to perfection ahead of the trip to Taunton.
"It's a time of year when we knew we would be light of batting with Hales and Taylor being away, so this was always the plan," Newell said.
"Lumby has been working hard to get ready for the middle of June and it's perfect timing from the squad's perspective to have an experienced bloke coming back in."
Lumb signed for Nottinghamshire from Hampshire ahead of the 2012 season and has since gone on to score 2,831 first-class runs, in 45 appearances, at an average of 38.25.
In T20 cricket he boasts a career strike rate in excess of 139, has played 27 times for England and has featured in global tournaments for Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and the Sydney Sixers.
Notts Outlaws are in NatWest T20 Blast action against Birmingham Bears this evening, but Newell resisted the temptation to unleash his powerful left-hander on the reigning champions, because the four day arena is a more suitable environment for a comeback game.
"It's about making sure he's as confident as he can be," Newell said. "He's had a fairly major operation on his arm and four day cricket, from a batting perspective, is a more sensible way of introducing him into the first team.
"There's not so much hurly burly and not so much swinging of the bat. Once he finds his feet and finds some form, it will kick him off into other forms of the game as well."
