Ben Hilfenhaus’ stint as Nottinghamshire’s overseas player has been cut short by a hip injury.

The 32-year-old fast bowler, who has played three LV= County Championship and four NatWest T20 Blast matches since joining the Club in early June, will leave the UK tomorrow and play no further part in the county season.

“It’s obviously disappointing; disappointing for Ben who gave everything during his time with us and disappointing for Notts because we wanted him to become a key player between now and the end of the season,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“The injury will rule him out for around six weeks so, between ourselves and the player, we’ve decided it’s best for him to return home early.

“It means we can look to bring in a replacement should a player of sufficient quality become available, and it allows Ben to focus on being fully fit for the Australian season with Tasmania.”

Hilfenhaus says he’s seen enough during the last five weeks to tip Nottinghamshire for a successful second half of the season.

“I’ve loved my time at Trent Bridge; it’s a special place to play cricket for sure and a great set of guys,” said Hilfenhaus.

“I’ve always wanted give it a go in county cricket and I was looking forward to getting stuck into it for the next couple of months.

“That wasn’t to be, but I absolutely wish Mick and the team good luck for the rest of the season. They’ve got loads of talent and character in the squad, so I’m sure they’ll go well between now and September and - with the young guys coming through - plenty of success in the future as well.”
