Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has highlighted the defence of the Club’s Barbados T20 Cup as a key target in pre-season preparations.
Newell will take all available players to the Carribean as Notts compete with Hampshire, Warwickshire and Northamtonshire for the trophy in addition to red ball practice matches and warm weather training.
“County cricketers spend five months in pre-season training and it is vital that we conclude our preparations with competitive matches,” said Newell.
“There are places to play for in the seam bowling unit and also some batting spots and we’re looking for new signings, and those already established in the squad, to come to the fore in Barbados.
“We’ll be without our overseas players and those in the England team but we’re keen to see Greg Smith and Will Gidman in match action and we’ll look to take the best players from our Academy on the tour too.”
Smile Group Travel have arranged a supporters’ package for those wishing to join Nottinghamshire’s players in Barbados.
Hosted by Devon Malcolm and Gordon Greenidge, the tour includes return flights, transfers and transport to all competitive matches, invitations to player receptions and presentations and excursions.
“We’ve always been extremely well looked after in Barbados and the supporters’ tour is a great way to see the best of Barbados while taking in some high quality cricket,” said Newell.
“The weather is obviously a big attraction as we need to guarantee opportunities to train and play outdoors but there is a lot to do on the island and we hope that some Nottinghamshire supporters will choose to join us.”
Supporters can register their interest in joining Nottinghamshire on their pre-season tour of Barbados, which will take place from 9-20 March 2015, by completing a short form here.
