Jake Ball has been ruled out of action for six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot.
Ball has featured in two LV= County Championship matches this season but pulled up in his delivery stride in the first innings against Somerset at Taunton.
“Losing Jake at this stage of the season is going to leave a hole in our twenty20 plans because he would have featured heavily,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“First and foremost we’ll look within the squad to see what our options are because we are getting very close to the opening match." Mick Newell
“I’m disappointed for him and I’ve got some planning to do to mitigate his absence.”
Newell is likely to select Andy Carter, Harry Gurney and Ajmal Shahzad as Notts Outlaws’ front-line bowlers throughout the NatWest T20 Blast.
With Peter Siddle not contracted to play in the competition and Andre Adams and Luke Fletcher habitually rested to preserve them for the LV= County Championship, Newell may consider a glance towards the overseas market to bolster the ranks.
“First and foremost we’ll look within the squad to see what our options are because we are getting very close to the opening match,” said Newell.
“Luke and Andre haven’t played much T20 recently and Peter is here to play four-day cricket so we need to make a plan.”
Paul Franks, Brett Hutton and Luke Wood are the obvious contenders to step up from the Second Eleven ahead of the opening fixture against Lancashire Lightning at Trent Bridge on Friday 16 May.
Adult tickets have been reduced to £10 for the showpiece fixture at Trent Bridge.
