Nottinghamshire won the toss and asked Leicestershire to bat first, Usman Tariq and occasional Notts man Will Root opening for the home side. The pair reached fifty in the 11th over before Root edged to keeper Adeel Shafique off Luke Fletcher’s bowling for 22.
At 51-1 Skipper Dan Redfern joined Tariq and the hundred came up in the 26th over, Tariq reaching his fifty in the 26th over and Redfern reaching his in the 37th over, lunch then taken with the score 145-1.
In the second session Brett Hutton struck in his 2nd over, Tariq edging to Shafique after reaching 60, Neil Pinner coming to the middle at 165-2.
Redfern reached his 119-ball century in the 48th over, the score 208-2. The hundred partnership came up in the 62nd over and Pinner reached his fifty in the 68th. Redfern reached 150 in the 72nd over, before tea was taken with the score 317-2 and Pinner 65 not out.
In the last session Redfern was adjudged lbw to Stephen Seymour for 154 in the 74th over and two balls later he did the same to Tom Wells without any addition to the score, now 324-4.
Next in was Alex Williams, who made 19 before being caught at 2nd slip by Sam Kelsall off Brett Hutton’s bowling in the 84th over. Lewis Hill joined Pinner who went on to reach his century (12 fours, 168 balls) in the 96th over, the score 399-5. The home side batted to the close finishing on 439-5, Pinner 116 not out and Hill on 41.
