Nottinghamshire's Stuart Broad has proven his fitness and has been named in England's 12-man squad to face Sri Lanka in their Investec Test at Lord's on Thursday 12 June.
Broad, who had been hampered by a knee injury through the spring, bowled lengthy spells in Nottinghamshire's draw with Sussex this week, taking five wickets in the match.
The squad, led by Alastair Cook, includes Chris Jordan, Sam Robson and Moeen Ali, who are all yet to receive their Test caps. Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes have also been named in the twelve.
“The selectors would like to congratulate all the players selected in the squad for the 1st Investec Test against Sri Lanka,” said James Whitaker.
“We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of both the County and England Performance Programme coaches in helping to develop the talents of Sam Robson, Liam Plunkett, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes.
“All four have carried their exciting winter form into the domestic season to earn well deserved recognition.
“We believe that this group of emerging talent will be very well complimented by the established core of experienced players that have been selected.
“We are expecting a tough series against Sri Lanka and the Selectors would like to wish Peter Moores, Alastair Cook, the coaches and players all the best for a good performance.”
The second and final Test will take place at Headingley beginning Friday 20 June.
