When quizzed about Nottinghamshire's latest signing, James Franklin, fellow Kiwi Andre Adams asked: "Did you check him for a pulse?"
This was in reference to Franklin's placid nature and also his cricketing temperament, which Adams believes is one of the best he's seen before – having been one of the men to recommend the New Zealand international for a two-month stint at Trent Bridge to play in limited-overs cricket along with Stephen Fleming.
"Franko is a mate of mine and whenever a mate of yours comes into a team you help them bed in," said Adams.
"He's the coolest character I know," Adams continued.
Franklin will make his T20 debut for Notts at Worcestershire tonight in the first of 14 games for the club between now and mid-August.
And Adams believes Notts have a real gem to call upon, with Franklin a versatile cricketer who can open or bat in the middle order while also being able to open the bowling or chip in with tight overs in the middle of a game with his left-arm seamers.
"If folk have seen anything of James they will know he hits the ball pretty hard and he's good bowler, has a good arm and moves pretty well in the field," added Adams.
"He's a world-class performer, especially in the white ball game, and we are looking for good things from him.
"I think background is a key thing when you are recommending players and myself and Stephen (Fleming) know him very well so he got a good recommendation.
"He's got a really good cricket head and knows the game really well and he'll add a different perspective on what's required and when to do different things."
