Nottinghamshire’s Academy continued their fine summer form and secured a winning draw against Mansfield Hosiery Mills.
After being putting by Hosiery Mills, the Academy suffered a setback early, Joe New trapped LBW for one run. Hassan Azad was joined by Jake Libby, and the pair settled into a solid partnership. By 29 overs both players had passed 50, before Azad was caught off Matt Wright for 60. 142-2 then became 143-3; Libby caught & bowled by Kieron Garside for 73.
Dan Freeman and Adam Tillcock came and went quickly, before Connor Marshall and Anuj Dal added 50 for the sixth wicket. Dal scored an important 29 before being caught off Matt New. The same bowler accounted for Marshall in his next over, the batsman caught behind for 32. He picked up a third when Tom Keast also feathered behind without scoring.
At 221-8 Paul Franks and Elliot Bowles saw out the remaining overs, Bowles closing unbeaten on 29 to see the Academy post 252-8.
The Hosiery Mills reply stumbled early, wickets for Elliot Bowles and Jake Tong reducing them to 9-3.
Tom New and Keshara Jayasinghe came together then though, and forged a partnership worth 132 which spanned 34 overs.
Joe New broke it well though, trapping his brother LBW for 74. Jayasinghe continued to add runs, this time alongside Kunal Menak, before being bowled by Anuj Dal for 67 in the 48th.
At 202-5 Hosiery Mills looked to chase a final batting point, but two run outs stopped them in their tracks, just six more runs added by the close of the innings, the academy restricting them to 208-7.
With that, Nottinghamshire’s youngsters secured a winning draw and 17 points.
