Nottinghamshire Academy prospect Luke Wood has been included in the squad for Sunday’s LV= County Championship match against Durham.
Wood has caught the eye with the second eleven after demonstrating a consistent ability to swing the red ball.
“Luke has impressed at England Under 19s level and looks like a really good prospect
“He’s got good control and swings the ball and offers us something completely different to what we already have.
“He’ll travel to Durham with us and we’ll consider playing him if we think that the conditions are right.”
Notts will be unable to call upon Alex Hales and Harry Gurney who will remain with England throughout the Royal London One-Day Series against India while Andre Adams misses out with a knee injury.
Gary Keedy, Brett Hutton and Sam Kelsall are also included in a 14-man squad.
“Durham aren’t tearing up any trees in the championship but they’re not losing many games either,” said Newell.
“They’ll have an older and more experienced side than us with Paul Collingwood in good touch.
“We have to try to get into a position to put them under pressure and to make sure that we get to the Yorkshire game in firm contention.”
