The Nottinghamshire second XI side were made to work for runs in the second day of their fixture against local rivals Derbyshire at Denby Cricket Club.
Derbyshire arrived in the morning session with three wickets left, only to see all three depart at the hands of Hutton, Bacon and Phillips. The former finished with 3-28 and Bacon 3-45 as the home side finished with a first innings lead of 21.
Notts found progress slow through the rest of the morning, levelling the scores despite losing Alex Hales for 8. When lunch arrived, Sam Kelsall was 8 not out and Tom Rowe with 4.
Rowe fell shortly after the restart for 8, leaving the score at 33-2. Sam Wood joined Kelsall at the crease and the pair carried the score over to 90 before Tom Knight (who claimed 3-24) had Wood caught at short leg in the 34th over.
Kelsall continued on, before his innings ended one run short of his half-century, trapped by Knight. Matt Cross (11) was his third victim, leaving Notts with 108-5. Alex Mellor (8*) and Brett Hutton (10*) continued until tea, the afternoon ending with the score at 131-5.
The evening session was ended before a ball had been bowled, rain seeing off all chances of play.
