Riki Wessels will return to the Nottinghamshire team to face Derbyshire in the LV= County Championship at the expense of Alex Hales who has been left out after a period of poor form.
Hales has amassed 30 runs in his last eight LV= County Championship innings, compounded by a first innings nought in the ongoing Second Eleven Championship game against Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell hopes that he can recapture the form that made him a mainstay in the top order in recent seasons.
“It’s important that he gets runs in the second team and comes back in with confidence." Mick Newell
“It came to the point where we felt we’d given Alex enough opportunity to find his form which hasn’t happened for him,” said Newell, who will recall the England T20 opener for Sunday's Yorkshire Bank 40 game against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge.
“It happens to players in the course of their careers but it’s important that we get off to better starts in red ball cricket so we had to make a change.
“It’s important that he gets runs in the second team and comes back in with confidence because I think that’s lacking at the moment.”
Notts will be boosted by the return to fitness of Andre Adams who has been sidelined by a calf injury since April. Ed Cowan will make his final LV= County Championship appearance before his departure for international duty.
