The Nottinghamshire Academy enjoyed an entertaining contest against top of the league Cuckney, making 323-4 before rain ended the match early, abandoning the fixture with five overs to play.
The Academy won the toss and elected to bat, opening pair Hassan Azad (56*) and Sam Kelsall (48*) reaching the 25 over drinks break with the score 122-0. Kelsall made his fifty two overs later, shortly before Azad played onto a ball from Will Root, departing with 58, Notts 135-1.
Tom Rowe joined Kelsall, but the opener was caught behind off Root for a steady 77. Rowe made 22 before a shot into the wind got the better of him, caught on the boundary off Root, his third victim. IT was the same bowler who accounted for Matt Cross (19), and with the score 215-4 Sam Wood and Adam Tillcock treated spectators to some big hitting in the remaining overs.
Wood made an unbeaten 81 in an innings which boasted 9 fours and 5 sixes and Tillcock thumped 3 fours and 3 sixes in pursuit of his 40*. The pair saw out the innings to finish on 323-4, their partnership worth 108. Will Root was the pick of the bowlers, taking all four wickets for 62 off his 11 overs.
The Cuckney reply was slowed in the 8th over, Andrew Parkin-Coates catching Stroh (16) off Luke Wood. When the same man caught Thomas (27) off Sam Wood, the hosts were 50-2.
Will Root was joined by Nick Langford and the pair halted the Notts attack, after forty overs the score was 219-2. An over later Langford reached his century, before being caught and bowled by Brett Hutton for 108. The broken partnership had stood at 203, the score 253-3.
The forecast rain arrived shortly after, the play halted at 261-3 before being ultimately abandoned, both sides gaining 11 points.
