Notts Outlaws all-rounder Samit Patel has called for a ‘clinical performance’ ahead of Wednesday’s Friends Life t20 quarter-final against Hampshire Royals at Trent Bridge.
Patel was a spectator as Hampshire won the trophy on home soil in 2010 after the Outlaws’ hopes were dashed by a Duckworth-Lewis defeat in the semi-final.
Memories of that day and the prospect of a crowd in excess of 10,000 in the knockout contest at Trent Bridge have served to underline the importance of progression and Patel wants to play his part.
“We want to get to Finals Day and we’re all looking forward to Wednesday because we need to be clinical to make that happen,” he said.
“Mick talks about using all of the players in the squad for different formats and that has got us to a scenario where we are a genuine threat in all three competitions at this stage of the season.
“It works for the players because we’re fresh and ready to stand up and be counted when it matters – and it really matters on Wednesday.”
Somerset, Essex, Sussex and Gloucestershire will contest their quarter-finals on Tuesday evening with Yorkshire and Worcestershire set for action in Wednesday’s early fixture. Notts and Hampshire will face-off for the last remaining place in the final four from 7.10pm at Trent Bridge
