Sri Lanka A successfully overcame a young Notts Outlaws team to earn a five-wicket Duckworth-Lewis victory in their 50-over tour match at Trent Bridge.
The tourists reached their victory target of 273 with eight balls to spare with all seven batsmen making a solid contribution to the card.
Five graduates of the Nottinghamshire Academy were present in the Notts side with Sam Kelsall (40) sharing a fruitful 86-run partnership with stand-in captain Steven Mullaney for the sixth wicket.
Mullaney’s assured 61 from 65 balls and a boundary laden 57 from Wessels were the highlights of the Notts batting effort but Akhil Patel and Sam Wood fell in consecutive balls to disrupt a solid start.
Brett Hutton (17 not out) and Jake Ball (19 not out) kicked on nicely in the final overs as Notts reached 293-9 from their 50 overs. Rain shortened the contest but an encouraging spell from Ball (1-35) and quality game time for players on the fringe of competitive selection ensured the game was worthwhile.
