Darren Pattinson has been ruled out of Saturday’s crucial Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston after suffering an ankle injury on the third day of Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship match against Durham.
Pattinson conceded 26 runs from two overs having returned to the field after treatment having lost his footing with his first ball of the day. Durham reached 279-5 at the close, a lead of 308.
Substitute fielder Neil Edwards will deputise for the remainder of the match but Director of Cricket Mick Newell has limited options having lost Ryan Sidebottom to England duty yesterday.
Charlie Shreck and Andy Carter are also out of action leaving Paul Franks, Andre Adams and Luke Fletcher to share front-line seam bowling duties although Jake Ball’s impressive haul against Leicestershire could lead to a re-call.
“We hope that Darren will be able to feature against Yorkshire next week but he certainly won’t be fit for the weekend,” said Newell.
“It’s a blow to lose him and Durham will dictate how the game plays out.
“I’d expect them to bat for around 15 overs and then put us in with a big lead on the board.”
Andre Adams trapped openers Michael Di Venuto and Mark Stoneman lbw as the hosts slipped to 35-2 but Muchall and Benkenstein added 144 for the third wicket.
Benkenstein was stumped by Chris Read to give Samit Patel the first of his three wickets but not before Muchall secured a deserved century.
Notts will be hard pressed to secure victory from this position but if their batsmen prove resolute, a draw would strengthen their position in the race for the LV= County Championship.
