Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has spoke of his pride in joining nine members of the squad for a winners’ reception at Buckingham Palace.
Support staff and committee members joined players’ wives and girlfriends on the trip which was organised by the Lord’s Taverners.
“Visiting Buckingham Palace again was a big honour and it’s one of several privileges that tie in with winning the championship,” said Newell.
“The Duke of Edinburgh is a big cricket fan and it was great that he took the time to speak to so many people during our visit.
“He was good-humoured and asked me if the players took any notice of what I told them!”
The players were each presented with LV= County Championship winners’ medals and ECB Chief Executive David Collier presented Nottinghamshire Chairman Peter Wright with a commemorative pennant which will be displayed in the Trent Bridge pavilion.
