Welbeck Colliery (20pts) 249-6 beat Notts Academy 173 (4pts) by 76 runs
The Academy suffered their second defeat of the season losing to Welbeck Colliery on Saturday.
Notts won the toss and asked the home side to bat and it was two former Notts players that were the main scorers in their total of 249.
Paul Pollard found his innings of 45 from 80 balls a painful experience on a wicket of uneven bounce, taking repeated blows on the gloves, on already injured fingers which in the end prevented him from fielding in the Academy innings.
Noel Gie compiled a composed 68 from 81 balls both with eight boundaries. The Academy bowling was wayward at times with 43 extras conceded of which 29 came from wides and no balls. Likewise the fielding was not a slick as usual.
In the Academy innings only Sam Wood with 55 was able to compile a reasonable score as the Jonathan Ball and Lee Bentley bowled 30 overs containing Notts to only 99 from their bowling. Ball ended with 5-45 and Bentley 3-54
Noel Gie joined Paul Pollard on the casualty list as he injured his ankle whilst fielding with Welbeck fielding two substitutes for most of the innings.
