Nottinghamshire seamer Ryan Sidebottom has been recalled to the England squad for the second npower Test against West Indies at the Riverside on Thursday.
Sidebottom's inclusion at the expense of Monty Panesar further strengthens Graeme Swann's standing as the country's first choice spinner.
Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell has also been handed a place in the 13-man selection off the back of impressive early-season form.
"Both Bell and Sidebottom have been in form in the early part of the season and have been a part of the England set-up in recent years," said National Selector Geoff Miller who watched Sidebottom in action at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
"Sidebottom has recovered from surgery after the Caribbean tour and reports that he is now bowling pain-free."
Whilst Graham Onions seems assured of retaining his place in the team after taking 7 wickets in England's win in the series opener, Sidebottom could replace Tim Bresnan who bowled just seven overs at Lord's.
