Akhil Patel and Adam Shepherd earned five wicket hauls to help steer Notts Academy to a comfortable 7 wicket win over Edwinstowe.

Steady batting from Sam Wood and captain for the day Sam Kelsall helped Notts to take advantage of their platform.

Shepherd took two early wickets to leave the home side 27-2  in the ninth over but a third wicket stand of 75 between Ben Lake and Jeff Appleton over 20 overs seemed to have recovered the situation.

Patel marked his introduction to the attack by inducing Appleton to edge to Adeel Shafique for 37. Patel took two further wickets in his next 18 balls including Lake caught by Kelsall for 44.

In his seventh over Patel claimed two victims, one to an excellent catch in the deep by Bobby Gamble.

Adam Shepherd was then recalled for the 41st over with the score on 143-7. Three wickets in four balls ,all clean bowled, quickly closed the innings for 143.

With 59 overs in which to get the runs Notts were in no particular hurry. They lost Patel, well caught bowled by Joe Burns for 14, but Sam Wood and Sam Kelsall, steadily took their side towards the required total.

Wood was out for 45 with the score on 114 and newcomer Jason Mohammed, replacing his fellow Trinidadian Kevon Cooper, misjudged a drive to mid on one run later. Ben McGuire then finished the game in his usual attacking manner with three fours and a six in his 21 from 17 balls. Kelsall remaining unbeaten on 48 from 96 balls.
