Loan signing Scott Newman will be included in the Nottinghamshire team to face Somerset in the LV County Championship.
Newman will open the batting alongside Matt Wood with Mark Wagh’s injury absence giving Samit Patel an opportunity to bat at number three.
Wagh suffered a hip injury diving in the field in last week’s draw with Yorkshire but should be available to face Sussex at Horesham.
Adam Voges will bat at number four with Paul Franks and Mark Ealham likely to earn selection in order to take on batting responsibility.
“Scott will play and it’s an opportunity for him to show us what he can do,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“He’s keen to impress because it was clear that he wasn’t going to get any cricket at Surrey this season and if he performs well that he can create an opportunity here.”
After a decent break, Notts now face a congested fixture list with Newell keen to rotate the bowlers in games against Somerset, Sussex, Essex and Warwickshire.
“We play 13 days of cricket in 15 days and that will mean that different bowlers are rested at different times,” said Newell.
“Ryan will play at Taunton but could be rested at Horesham and we’ll look to share the workload.”
