Adam Voges again missed out on his first century in county cricket as Nottinghamshire built a 74-run lead over Lancashire.
Voges made 95 from 174 balls, hitting 15 fours, before he was lbw to former Notts loanee Oliver Newby shortly before tea.
It was the second consecutive innings in which the 29-year-old had fallen within sight of three figures, following from his 99 against Worcestershire last week.
But the fact that he helped put Notts in a strong position will provide some consolation, as the visitors lost Mark Wagh (17), Bilal Shafayat (34) and Ali Brown (21) before overhauling Lancashire's meagre first innings total of 189.
Voges added 67 for the fifth wicket with skipper Chris Read, who is still at the crease on 48 not out, while Paul Franks is unbeaten on 22, with Notts in a position to put the hosts under heavy pressure in the final two days - providing the Manchester weather holds.
