Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell has confirmed that Alex Hales will be in the Outlaws team to face Leicestershire Foxes when the Friends Provident Trophy campaign begins at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
Hales scored 87 runs against Middlesex Panthers in the club’s final pre-season friendly on Friday and registered an unbeaten stand of 144 at Grace Road last week.
Luke Fletcher is also in the 13 man squad and stands a good chance of making the eleven.
“They’re both in the squad on merit and we want to introduce younger players in this competition this season,” said Newell.
“We’re going to change our approach slightly this year by asking for more aggression from our top four and the make up of the team will reflect that.
“Leicestershire have always performed better in one day cricket than four day cricket and they will be a threat because they’re always motivated to try and beat Notts at Trent Bridge.
“If we don’t have any rain then I’d expect that we need to win six of our eight games to qualify from the group and reaching the quarter-finals has to be our minimum target at this stage.”
New signings Jason Brown and Ali Brown are also in the squad but Charlie Shreck, Matt Wood and Ryan Sidebottom miss out.
Sidebottom continues to move closer to full fitness after off-season surgery on an Achilles problem and hopes to be in the frame to face Lancashire at Old Trafford in the LV County Championship from Wednesday 29th April.
