Two wickets from Darren Pattinson helped Nottinghamshire take maximum points from relegated Surrey at The Oval.
Pattinson ripped through Scott Newman’s off-stump before restricting Mark Ramprakash to his second single digit innings of the game when the Surrey batsman edged to Will Jefferson.
Notts hold an overnight lead of 18 points at the top of LV County Championship Division One and look likely to begin the final week of the season at the summit with Somerset and Durham heading for draws in their respective fixtures.
“We’re in prime position but a lot can happen in a week and we were fortunate to meet a team who offered a lower level of resistance with their relegation confirmed,” said Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“From a batting point of view, we witnessed our most aggressive and positive display of the season and when we got Ramprakash out early in both innings, it was clear that they the Surrey players felt very down.
“Samit Patel and Mark Wagh batted exceptionally well and all of our bowlers performed.
“We’re happy with the way that we played and if we can reach the same level against Hampshire next week then we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
Earlier, Swann scored 82 as Notts established a commanding first innings lead of 265.
Nightwatchman Daren Pattinson went lbw to Pedro Collins without adding to his overnight score but Mark Ealham’s 32 and a quick 12 from Andre Adams took Notts to 532 all out which proved enough to secure victory by an innings and 142 runs.
