Injuries to Staurt Broad and Andrew Flintoff compounded England’s misery as India secured a fifth straight win in Cuttack.
Broad suffered a hamstring strain and was forced to leave the field midway through his ninth over and his a major doubt for England’s sixth one day international on Saturday.
"Injuries are a big concern because I'm suffering, Freddie is suffering and Broady is suffering but I'll be fine and I'll play," said England captain Kevin Pietersen who hit 111 of 128 balls.
"The team's improving and the guys are trying their hardest so it's a bitter pill to swallow.
"We're just getting beaten by a better team. It's important to try to win one of the last two games."
India won by six wickets with six overs to spare with Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dhoni and Raina hitting fifties.
