Trent Bridge played host to a special ceremony when more than 80 kidney donors aged from 18 to 80 were thanked for their sacrifice.
The event was planned by Nottingham City Hospital transplant surgeon Magdi Shehata who secured a significant donation from drug companies and commissioned a specially designed silver badge to be presented to donors along with a copy of a special poem.
Mr Shehata and his team carry out around 50 kidney transplants a year and he has now arranged for all donors in Nottingham to receive a badge when they are discharged.
It is hoped that other hospitals around the country will also take up the scheme.
