Notts duo Luke Fletcher and Alex Hales have been included in the England Under 19’s squad to face Bangladesh ‘A’ at Loughborough in July.

Both players have impressed in one-day action for Notts Outlaws this season and are tipped for big futures at Trent Bridge.

“I got a text message from Wayne Noon saying congratulations but I didn’t know what he was congratulating me for so it came as a nice surprise to learn that I had made the squad,” said Fletcher, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence since signing his first professional contract this season.

“I didn’t expect the call but it’s always an honour to represent your country and I am determined to make the playing eleven.

“I haven’t been involved with England age groups before but it’s at the back of every cricketer’s mind to represent their country and I know that I will enjoy the experience.”

England Under 19’s Coach Andy Pick is a regular watcher of Second XI Cricket and maintains close contact with Notts Coach Wayne Noon to monitor the progress of emerging players.

“Luke has come from nowhere and although we were aware of him last season, he was a long way from pushing for a place whereas now he is playing first team cricket and finding good form,” said Andy, who also coaches England Under 17’s.

“Our selections are based on performance and Luke and Alex are in possession and will push for a place in our squad for the summer series.

“Alex got a 96 for England Under 19’s against Middlesex second eleven and has caught the eye when I’ve seen him play.

“This is the first time that the Under 19’s have played against a national ‘A’ side and it will be a great opportunity for the players in the squad to play their way to future inclusion.”
