Bilal Shafayat will bat at number seven for Nottinghamshire against Hampshire following the late withdrawal of Graeme Swann with a sore elbow.
Swann is expected to be fit for the next LV County Championship match against Surrey at Trent Bridge but will play no part at the Rose Bowl where Hampshire built a first innings total of 293.
Andre Adams dismissed openers Carberry and Brown and Darren Pattinson maintained the momentum with two wickets in his first two overs after lunch.
Samit Patel (2-57) and Charlie Shreck (2-77) were also amongst the wickets and Paul Franks posted five maidens, going for just 29 runs off his 16 overs.
“Andre did very well and, collectively, it was a solid bowling performance,” said Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“Paul Franks kept it tight and was very economical and Samit Patel stepped up and performed the role that we would have expected from Graeme Swann.
“It’s important that we establish a first innings lead and that is achievable on this wicket.
“We made inroads to restrict them to 78-4 but John Crawley and Nic Pothas shared a good partnership to reach 173-5.”
Will Jefferson and Matt Wood opened the batting for Notts and scored 13 runs from six overs.
