Bilal Shafayat’s unbeaten 54 helped Notts to 114-4 at tea on day two at Trent Bridge.
Just 33 overs were possible in the first two sessions due to rain and bad light but Samit Patel hit 29, his partnership with Shafayat moving Notts from 10-2 to 78-3.
Having resumed on 6-0, Matt Wood fell lbw to Steve Harmison while Mark Wagh (2) and Adam Voges (9) also struggled in difficult conditions.
Wagh edged to Callum Thorp at third slip and Patel was caught at mid-wicket off Thorp’s bowling before Voges was given lbw to Dale Benkentstein.
