Andy Carter’s five wicket haul proved in vein as Minor Counties beat Notts Second XI by 52 runs at Wellbeck.
Carter and Luke Fletcher ripped through the top order to leave Minor Counties 53-5 but Shantry’s unbeaten 56 and 40 extras proved to be the difference between the sides.
Notts pair Scott Elstone (38 not out) and Alex Hales (27) were the main contributors with the bat and Captain Rob Ferley chipped in with 24.
“Our seam attack bowled well and Andy deserved his wickets but we over-stepped the mark too many times and bowled wides which cost us,” said Second XI Coach Wayne Noon.
“We put out a very young side and the experience of Rob Ferley was valuable but we only had one staff batter in the top five in Alex Hales and no one around him achieved a decent score.
“Scott Elstone played well at the end and showed that he is capable of batting further up the order and he’ll get his chance to do that in time.”
The Second XI face Essex at Bishops Stortford tomorrow.
