Bilal Shafayat says that he feels increasingly comfortable at the top of the Notts batting order after recording his second LV County Championship century of the season against Sussex at Hove.
His 157-run opening partnership with Will Jefferson put pressure on Sussex and laid solid foundations for the middle order to strive for a first innings lead.
“It was good to play with Will and to record a big partnership but we both found the right tempo and played it straight,” said Bilal.
“It might be confusing for the bowlers because he’s so tall and I’m quite short but we have to use that to our advantage.”
Shafayat scored a memorable century against Durham in July and has also enjoyed a match-winning 67 against Worcestershire in NatWest Pro40.
“I’ve been feeling good throughout the season and I had to wait patiently for my chance but I’m in there now and I’m scoring runs and enjoying my cricket,” he said.
“I’m happy to bat anywhere in the top five but I’m learning how to be effective at the top of the order and it’s working.”
