Darren Pattinson put Notts in a strong position on the opening day of the County Championship at Kent taking 5-22 as the home side set a target of 162.
Kent captain Rob Key hit 79 but Martin van Jaarsveld, Matthew Walker and Darren Stevens all went for ducks.
"I was pretty nervous before the game but the plan was to keep it tight and not to give away any easy runs," said Pattinson, who has stepped up to County level after playing club cricket in England for the past two seasons.
"I just want to contribute and help the team and if we post a good total with the bat tomorrow morning then we can put ourselves in a strong position."
Charlie Shreck also achieved success taking 4-65 before the Notts batsmen eased to 121-3 at the close of play.
