Bulwell-born bowler Luke Fletcher claimed his maiden first-class wicket as Notts finished the first day with Oxford 185-4 at The Parks.
England duo Graeme Swann (2-39) and Stuart Broad (1-44) also enjoyed some success with the ball and Paul Franks, AJ Harris and Samit Patel were given the chance to get overs under their belts.
After a rain-delayed start, Oxford openers Harry Hooper and Eddie Abel enjoyed a 37-run partnership before Fetcher bowled out Abel for 22.
“Luke is in on merit and he has a very clear mind on what he has to do and he good 11-over spell for us this afternoon,” said Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“It is a slow wicket which has given Oxford the opportunity to get on the front foot and they have played pretty well.
“We have taken the opportunity to look at a number of bowlers because everybody needs to be ready when the England boys disappear.”
Play is scheduled to resume at 11am on Thursday although more rain is expected.
