Seamer Charlie Shreck will be missing from action for Nottinghamshire until the end of July following his injury against Derbyshire in the Twenty20 Cup on Wednesday.
The 6ft 7ins Cornishman was helped from the field after being hit on the left shin by a shot from Michael Dighton.
And although x-rays yesterday confirmed no fracture, the heavy bruising suffered means he will be out for four to six weeks.
Director of Cricket Mick Newell said: “It’s bad news that Charlie is out but the injury could have been worse.
“With Ryan Sidebottom playing for England our bowling resources are stretched. We signed Simon Francis to cover for this, but also need AJ Harris back on the field from his knee problem as soon as possible.”
