Director of Cricket Mick Newell has confirmed New Zealand star Chris Martin won’t be coming to Trent Bridge after the pace bowler was named in the Black Caps ICC World Twenty20 squad.
The 32-year-old had been in talks with Notts to replace David Hussey as the second overseas player when Hussey goes on tour of Pakistan with Australia A later this month.
But Martin’s call-up for the Twenty20 competition in South Africa in September ended those plans and Newell said: “We will now be turning our attention elsewhere.
“Chris would have been an excellent signing for us but these things happen. We’ll be taking a look at our options, but certainly won’t be rushed into signing someone just for the sake of it - they must add something to the squad.”
Notts captain Stephen Fleming has also not been selected for the tournament, meaning he is free to complete the domestic season at Trent Bridge.
