Medical man Matt McDonald-Liggins is The Blaze’s Head of Sports Science and Medicine, in charge of ensuring the squad remain in peak health and injury-free.
A Physiotherapy graduate from the University of Leicester, he began his career in 2015 working in the NHS, before moving into sport with roles at Loughborough University.
Having worked across sports at the university, he moved into a cricket-specific role with Lightning, as they were then known, in 2020, before also working with Northamptonshire’s men’s squads.
He returned to the heart of the East Midlands in January 2024 when he was appointed to his current role, with the side by that point known as The Blaze and based at Trent Bridge.
In his tenure, the team have established themselves as one of the best sides in the country, taking home no fewer than four trophies, including a historic treble in 2026.
McDonald-Liggins was also one of four members of The Blaze’s first XI backroom staff who helped Trent Rockets Women to glory in The Hundred that same year.
