The all-rounder claimed his best bowling return in four years with 7-100 in the loss at Glamorgan last week, which cut Notts’ lead in Division Two over Somerset to 10.5 points.

And while the 28-year-old has been delighted with the team’s start to the season, he doesn’t want the defeat to prove anything more than a blip on their bid to return to the top flight.

He said: “Losing to Glamorgan was very disappointing and it’s very important we get back to winning ways.

“We’ve had some good results over Derbyshire in recent years and should be regarded as favourites for the game. We must go in there to do a job and we’ve shown already this season how capable we are.”

Swann 10-wicket match haul at Swansea took him to 26 first-class victims of the season - leaving him well on course to beat his two previous returns for Notts after moving from Northants in 2005.

He added: “I’ve been pleased with the way I’ve been bowling all year. The dry weather at the start of the season helped me be a fully functioning part of the side right from the first fixture and I’ve got plenty of overs under my belt.

“Going into the Glamorgan game as the only spinner, I was expected to take the wickets and it was good to deliver. Our fight back on day three left us in a position where we could have won, so it’s not as if we’ve suddenly lost our way and our form is still good.

“I’m just looking to keep putting the ball on the right spot and help the team get another victory.”
