Trent Bridge have shown their support for Young Minds’ ‘Hello Yellow’ initiative, devised to show young people who are struggling with their mental health that they are not alone.
Director of Cricket Mick Newell joined those donning yellow for the day, which coincides with World Mental Health Day.
Young Minds are an organisation dedicated to providing mental health support for young people to make sure they have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.
“It’s been tremendous to see so many of our staff in yellow today to show their support for such an important issue,” said Mark Clifford, Community Projects Manager for the Trent Bridge Community Trust.
“We know from our work with young people in the community that the pressures of modern life can have a real impact on mental health.
“When you read that a third of young people have reported a mental health concern (according to a survey by Action for Children), it really hammers home how important it is to ensure there is a support network available to help individuals who might be struggling to move into adulthood.”
The Trent Bridge Community Trust’s Positive Futures project takes a prevention-based approach to improving the behaviour and attitude of individuals between the ages of eight and 19.
Over the past decade, in excess of 650 young people have received mentoring through the Trust to build their academic confidence, address potential barriers to learning, and encourage them to raise their aspirations.
Meanwhile, the ECB have backed Public Health England’s (PHE) ‘Every Mind Matters’ campaign, designed to show the steps people can take to be better prepared for life’s ups and downs.
An online platform has been launched to allow users to create a personalised action plan, while former England cricketers Andrew Flintoff and Sarah Taylor feature in a film commissioned by PHE showing a range of people whose lives have been affected by poor mental health.
