Riki Wessels returns to Trent Bridge in 2012 after a phenomenal winter in Zimbabwe. Playing for the Mid-West Rhinos, the wicket-keeper / batsman amassed 631 runs in just six first class matches at an average of over 90.
His haul included two centuries, including a career-best innings of 197.
Reaching three figures for Nottinghamshire in competitive cricket will be one of the aims for the new campaign for Riki, although he did begin life as a Trent Bridge player by scoring a century in a warm-up match against Surrey in April 2011.
The former Northants man registered three championship fifties, with a best of 84, for Notts last term, as well as hitting four more in white-ball cricket with a man of the match-winning 76 coming in the Twenty20 competition against Warwickshire.
Son of Kepler Wessels, the former Test batsman who appeared for both Australia and South Africa, Riki’s first spell in county cricket was with Northamptonshire where he played from 2005-2009.
His versatility as a top order batsman with the ability to back-up Chris Read with the gloves, if needed, obviously appealed to the Notts’ coaching staff when the opportunity came to sign him.
