Message from The Grounds Management Association
All of the snow and rain recently has caused flooding and waterlogging in many areas. Below we have signposted to some useful guidance on prevention, damage limitation, and clear-up. Different parts of the country will be impacted more severely than others, but there should be something for everyone in the links below.
The ECB advice on flooding covers both prevention and considerations for clean-up. Click here for flooding advice & support.
Primarily aimed at winter sports surfaces rather than cricket specifically, there is multisport advice available from Sport England. It is still relevant to cricket outfields and contains useful information on identifying the causes of waterlogging. Click here for advice on waterlogging.
Cricket specific winter maintenance guidance can be found here. This covers advice on mowing, fertilisers, preparing the outfield for the season and most significantly aeration on the square. January is the final month where aeration is recommended for the square, so the window is beginning to close to get this done.
If you have any major concerns and feel you would benefit from advice from a County Pitch advisor, please contact your Club Development Officer.
