Young prospect Akand Gangotra and Academy seamer Thomas Giles shared six wickets on the first day of Nottinghamshire U18’s three day friendly against Yorkshire at Lady Bay, despite the visitors surmounting a sizable first innings score of 426/9.
Farhan Ahmed, Saif Ali and Freddie McCann, meanwhile, took one wicket apiece as the Green and Golds chipped away in the face of resistance from Alex Cree, who made 137, and Noah Chapman, 92.
Having won the toss, it was Gangotra - part of Notts’ U16 side - who made the early breakthroughs, reducing the White Rose to 53-2.
Henry Pearson shared a 30 over stand worth 99 with Chapman, though, before the hosts found their next breakthrough courtesy of Freddie McCann, the former caught at slip reverse sweeping the left-arm spinner.
Chapman and Cree then shared a partnership of 191 to take the total to 434-3, prior to Notts taking seven wickets in 19 overs as the day drew to a close.
Giles claimed three of those scalps - including that of Cree - while Gangorta had his third of the day caught at second slip, and Ali took the prized wicket of Chapman, trapped in front.
