Nottinghamshire’s first team players have spent their first day back after the close season undergoing muscoskeletal (MSK) screenings with physio James Pipe.
Harry Gurney, Luke Fletcher, Steven Mullaney, Riki Wessels, Mark Footitt and Billy Root were among the squad members to be tested in the gym at Trent Bridge.
Over the next few days, the players will undergo other fitness and agility tests and the information gathered used to put together a bespoke winter training programme for each individual.
“Everything we are doing is about either improving performance or helping to keep players out on the park rather than on the treatment table,” said Pipe.
“We test the lads’ full range of movement in the joints, their spine, hip and ankle mobility, as well as their muscle capacity. Some of the tests provide baselines, so we can have a starting point.
“We can also trace the symmetry or difference in the two sides of the body and establish areas of weakness and where individuals can improve.
“We collate all the results together from the screenings, and along with such things as a countermovement jump (CMJ) test, a yo-yo test, a sprint test and past injury data, come up with an individualised programme tailored to each player, including their specific game requirements depending on their role within the team.”
